Master List Week 12! YAY! Half-Way Done!!!!

Hello, Girls! :-D

I had a BLAST on our last day of the semester! You guys did a great job on Greensleeves, too! Sorry I didn't get this email out last night.  I came home and went STRAIGHT to bed! I was SOOOOOOO tired. :-)

Anyhow...the YouTube assignments are as follows:

Claire - FREE
Lilly - Geography
Liliana - English
Kaitlyn - Math
Savannah - Latin
Emily - Science

Since I didn't send out the assignments in a timely manner, the due date is extended to Friday at bedtime (please don't forget about it!!!!). I'll work hard on the playlist over the weekend so we can start using it by Monday.

When we return in January, our presentation will be an Impromptu Speech (1-2 mins)
No preparation needed.  Your tutor will give you a topic in class.  You will have 1 minute to prepare a 1-2 minute presentation.

I'm going to ask you to tell the class about your Christmas vacation: a neat trip, a great gift (given or received), time spent visiting with family, cooking, baking, decorating, etc.  Try to think about it in advance so you can fill 2 minutes.  I'll remind you about this the week before classes resume.

You guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and enjoy your break! :-D

Master List Week 11 Playlist

Hi, Guys!

Thanks for being patient with me as I catch up on last week's material.  I'm thinking I'll try to update the DropBox files tomorrow night for weeks 10 & 11.

Here are a couple of warnings about this week's videos...
1) The French Revolution Song shows a couple of bloodied guillotine blades quickly (I'm not sure young children will even recognize what they are seeing).  I decided to include the video anyway because there is SO much info given in a quick catchy manner.

2) The Crash Course video is long but entertaining (it may not keep a young child's attention for the entire duration), but they use the words "suck" and "sucks" several times.  I haven't been able to use his videos in the past because they contained cursing :-(

Lastly, I haven't yet received MOST of the submissions, so the playlist is currently QUITE short.  I'll update it as I receive additional videos.

Enjoy! :-D

Master List Week 11

We had a FABULOUS class today! :-D

Next week's Presentation will be to narrate an Aesop's Fable.  If it's SUPER short, just present 2!  Choose 1 or 2 of Aesop's Fables and retell the story in your own words.  Use props, expression, and gestures to bring the story to life.

I really enjoy when you guys really get into your presentations, so jump in and enjoy yourselves! :-D

The focus will be to avoid distracting behaviors during your presentation.

Also, YouTube assignments are to be turned in Wednesday night before bed and are as follows:
Emily - FREE
Claire - Geography
Lilly - English
Liliana - Math
Kaitlyn - Latin
Savannah - Science

Please let me know if you have any questions.  See you Tuesday! :-D

Master List Week 10 Playlist

Hi, Guys!

Sorry it's taken me SOOOO long to get the Week 10 Playlist together! :-(  It's FINALLY here, though!

It seems rather short to me because I was unable to find ANY history videos that were both relevant AND appropriate....grrrrr...so we'll have to do with out for this week.

Anywho...here it is! :-D

Master List Week 10

What an AMAZINGLY FUN day! :-D  I LOVED seeing your kind and caring spirits as you worked with all the little ones today! :-D

Next week's presentation is...
Persuasive Speech (2-3 min)
Choose a topic that you feel strongly about. Create a presentation designed to "persuade" your audience to change their beliefs or behavior in some way. Use Monroe's Motivated Sequence Speech Topics to write your speech:
ATTENTION-Get the attention of your public. State the importance the problem.
NEED-State the need for change. Show why it should concern them. Relate the issue or problem to the values, attitudes, interests and needs of the listeners.
SATISFACTION-Satisfy their needs. Provide the details and interesting facts of your plan. Show how your solution works.
VISUALIZATION-Visualize the benefits. That is the heart of your motivational speech topic. Illustrate them with examples, anecdotes, comparisons, statistics, definitions and visual aids. Share success stories. Tell your audience what's in it for them.
ACTION-Call to action. Tell your audience what you want them to do

Our focus will be to use a Keyword Outline instead of reading your speech word for word.  Use a keyword outline when giving your presentation.

YouTube Research Assignments should be turned in on Wednesday by bedtime:
Savannah - FREE
Emily - Geography
Claire - English
Lilly - Math
Liliana - Latin
Kaitlyn - Science

Have a great week! :-D

Service Project THIS Tuesday! :-D

Hello, Guys!

We will combine Mrs. Rebekah's and Mrs. Shannon's classes during Science this Tuesday and head over to the preschool for a service project! :-D  We will be serving the 2-year-old class for 30 minutes.  We will have a student volunteer to read a short and simple Thanksgiving themed story to the children while the rest of the students help set-up a craft project.  We will help the little ones make a Thanksgiving turkey from their handprint!  All the supplies will be provided.  I just need kids with loving hearts, willing to serve those that are younger than themselves.  Parents, please let your students know what we will be doing.  We're gonna have a blast! :-D

See you Tuesday!

Master List Week 8

Hello, Guys!

You are receiving this email late! I went home after CC and crashed at 5:30 in the evening and slept until 10 AM! I'm finally feeling better, though! ;-)  Because of my tardiness, I'm extending our YouTube deadline to Thursday night before bedtime.

Your assignments are:
Kaitlyn - Geography
Savannah - English
Emily - Math
Claire - Latin
Lily - Science
Liliana - FREE

I have received a couple already, and I thank you for your diligence! :-D Unfortunately, I won't have a link to send you until closer to the end of the week because now I'm behind on finding History videos for you! :-(

Next week's presentations are the same as this week's...

Demonstration Speech (5-6 min). Bring your favorite activity and show us how to do it.
Demonstrate how to do something, make something, fix something, use something, or how something works. Use visual aids such as models, drawings, or actual items. Ask your audience to participate if possible. Close your speech with a memorable summary or with a clear call to action. Ask if there are any questions about your presentation..

Our focus will be GESTURES: use body movements to enhance your presentation.

This week Emily, Claire, Lily, and Anna will present.  Everyone else will have a vacation week! ;-)

Study hard, have a good week, and I'll see you Tuesday!

Greensleeves for Tin Whistle

Moms,

Please remember to bring YOUR tin whistles to class if you have one.  I'd LOVE for you to be able to participate with your student! :-D

Also, we will be working on the traditional English song "Greensleeves" over the next few weeks.  I'm including a very simple version of it on mp3 for the girls to start listening to, so they will be familiar with the melody.  Please allow them to listen to it a few times before Tuesday if possible.

Thank you! :-D

Master List Week 7 Playlist

Thanks, girls!  You did a great job finding interesting videos for this week :-)

I'm still waiting for a couple of submissions, but the playlist is ready with what we've got!

My weekly warning about the ads that pop up randomly between videos stands...please be aware of that...but I have a new content warning for this week.  The Horrible Histories video about Martin Luther contains QUITE a bit of potty humor.  I don't find it inappropriate, but a little crude.  Please preview and decide if it's ok for your family.

Enjoy! :-D

Master List Week 7

Hey, Guys!

We had a great class today! :-D I'm excited to get back into the swing of things for our second quarter.  I TOTALLY forgot to tell you guys about next week's presentations!  They are gonna be GREAT! :-D

Please note that they should take 5-6 minutes EACH!!!!  Because of that, we will have 1/2 the class present for week 8, and the other 1/2 will present on week 9.  Week 8 presentations will be: Liliana, Kaitlyn, and Savannah. Week 9 Presentations will be: Emily, Claire, Lily, and Anna.

This is a GREAT time to show your classmates something that you really LOVE. I've seen people build Legos, make playdough, teaching how to make a paper airplane, basic card-making, etc. The sky's the limit, but you have only 5-6 minutes!!!

Also, I didn't talk about it during class, but your YouTube assignments are as follows:
Lily - FREE
Liliana - Geography
Kaitlyn - English
Savannah - Math
Emily - Latin
Claire - Science
Please remember to find information about THIS WEEK (Week 7).

I'd like to get your submissions by bedtime Wednesday (TOMORROW) if possible.  If you need more time or cannot find anything, just let me know.  Thanks! :-D

Lastly, if any of you students have an email address you would like me to send updates to directly (in addition to your parents' address) ask your folks to make sure it's ok, and just let me know what the address is.

You guys have a good week and I'll see you on Tuesday! :-D

Easter Egg in the Playlist! ;-)

Hey, Guys!

I ran across this video a couple of weeks back and just realized it's for this week.  There's a video in Week 6's Playlist that has Pachelbel's Cannon in D hidden within it.  If you're up for the challenge, send me back an email letting me know which video it's in! ;-)  Have a good weekend!

Master List Week 6 Playlist

Hello, Guys!

I'm still waiting for homework from several of you, but I'm going to go ahead and let you get started with what we have...but first, my YouTube warning of the week! ;-)  Because we are studying da Vinci and Michelangelo this week, EVERY video related to either of them or referencing "Renaissance Men" has artistic nudity in it!!! They made LOTS of nude statues, paintings, etc. It's just how our art history goes...if your family is sensitive to that, I'd suggest you previewing everything.  Any who...here is Week 6's playlist...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CWzkk6-sdI&list=PLHttkiQ-s4U94EY33Ob64SQ04GhqEDVCe&index=1

In addition, there's an AMAZING BBC documentary called "The Divine Michelangelo" part 1 and part 2 uploaded to YouTube that's just fascinating! It's partly documentary, partly live action.  It's probably only for the older set, but you need to preview it! The themes in the show are probably PG-13.

If you haven't already gotten your submissions in to me for the week, please do it as soon as you can.  Thanks! :-D

Master List Week 6

Hey, guys!

Today's class was FANTASTIC! :-D Thank you so much for your cooperation as we changed things up a little. Remember that I sent home 2 pages for you and your parents to look over this week, and please complete your Science Experiment Journal page. Also, please remind your parents that there's NO CLASS next week! :-D Woo Hoo!

When you return on week 7, your presentation is as follows:

Famous Speech (2-3 min)
Recite a famous speech that your historical character (from last week)
gave. You may dress up and even speak like your character if you wish.

Skill to work on - Expression: Make your voice interesting by varying your tone and volume and using pauses to enhance your presentation.

If your speech is rather short, please remember to elaborate on who is giving the speech to whom, and where, and why, and who is the audience, etc. Bring props, pictures, dress up, WHATEVER! Try to have some fun with it and make it interesting for the class.

Your YouTube assignments are as follows:
Claire - OFF!
Lily - Geography
Liliana - English
Kaitlyn - Math
Savannah - Latin
Emily - Science

Please have these turned in by bedtime Wednesday of THIS WEEK! You'll be off next week, but I'd like you to have these videos to study with while you are on vacation.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks! :-D

Master List Week 5 Playlist

Hi, folks!

You did a GREAT job with your video assignments this week! :-D Please be aware that in a couple of our Geography videos there is artistic nudity (there are naked statues). I hope you enjoy watching the videos your classmates have selected! :-D
